Napa Valley (part 2)

Day two in Napa we decided to take ourselves around to a few different places. Since I was driving, we only went to two wineries, but we also stopped for breakfast and lattes.

Bouchon Bakery

We had dinner reservations at Thomas Keller’s French Laundry later in the evening, so we decided to start out day off with his delicious food as well and stopped at the Bouchon Bakery. Look at all those perfect-looking pastries! I had a delicious lemon tart along with a decadent espresso macaron. I’m not generally a fan of macarons, but the bakery is famous for them, so I needed to try one. It was really good and not overly sweet like I find most.

Mumm Champagne

We started the day at Mumm Napa. What better way to start off your birthday than by sampling sparkling wines?

I particularly liked the Blance de Blancs, the DVX 2005 and the DVX Rose. The sparkling Pinot Noir was interesting as well, I had never had a red sparkling before. I think I would have liked it more if it had been served a bit colder.

Mumm Napa vineyards

This is the view from the Mumm Napa tasting patio. Sipping champagne while overlooking a beautiful vineyard is a pretty good way to spend an hour or two.

Frog's Leap barn

The next place we went was Frog’s Leap, where we sampled their current release wines. It is a gorgeous place. The tasting was outside where we could walk around the gardens and through the vineyards at our leisure.

Pomegranates at Frog's Leap

In addition to a whole host of different fruits, vegetables, and flowers, there were also pomegranates growing on the property.

Pam the pumpkin vanquisher

I found a pumpkin. I defeated it.
